Research on Sublimation Printing

During my last semester of college, I was given a scholarship to do undergraduate research on sublimation printing. My mentor gave me a synthetic fiber that I was given the task of: identifying the fabric, printing on it, and creating a garment with it. The fabric hand immediately reminded me of my favorite jacket that was polyester, and given my background in garment production, I chose to replicate the jacket pattern and make a windbreaker for my garment. I then did textile testing like microscopy to confirm that it was polyester, and after that, the printing process started. I did my fabric tests on swatches of the same polyester that I printed color blocks onto, so I sewed and printed my final fabrics after that stage. I made 2 jackets that are shown below.

Various Screen Prints/DTG print

I started screen printing, in 2019, by making my own frames and screens with scrap wood, and I took the time to learn the whole process. Focusing on and sharing my work enabled many opportunities for me, as I went on to independently print artist merchandise with Get Free Company and then work at an industrial print shop. I still screen print today and sell prints of my art. I also worked at a DTG shop and studied sublimation prints through research at UGA in fall 2022, so not all of the items are screen printed, but I did do the labor and process for each print shown. The works shown go from most recent work to oldest.
